Memory Has Materials

Brno does not only remember with plaques and dates. It remembers with bronze pea pods, stainless-steel poetry, abstract pipes, giant wire lightbulbs, fractal geometry, black granite, moving water and glowing onyx. This walk follows seven works of public art from 2006 to 2023 and asks a more useful question than 'what does this statue represent?': why did the artist choose this material, this shape and this exact piece of city? Look closely and the monuments stop behaving like illustrations. They become arguments about science, language, technology, resistance, trauma and architecture—and about what a city decides should remain visible.
