On arrival
Near Kobližná 28, look for the oversized open-wire lightbulb forms in the small public space near Malinovského náměstí.
Look closer
Trace where one bulb's wireframe passes through another and notice how the sculpture becomes denser or lighter as you move.
The monument shifts attention from a famous name to the network that lets technology change urban life.
At Kobližná, Thomas Edison is remembered without a human figure. Tomáš Medek's 2010 stainless-steel tribute uses four interpenetrating lightbulb forms. Brno links the commission to Edison's company and the electric lighting introduced at today's Mahen Theatre in 1882. The sculpture's wire construction matters: the city describes its polygonal mesh as both an evocation of electrical networks and a quiet metaphor for contemporary communication networks. Look through the bulbs rather than only at them. The object is less about one inventor than about the systems that make invention spread through a city.
Accessibility at this stop
The sculpture is in an exterior public-space setting. Confirm current paving and unobstructed step-free access on site before publication claims go beyond this.
