Enter or stand near the main approach from Absolonova and locate the black memorial plaque recounting the cemetery's restoration.
Look closer
The plaque is itself evidence for one version of the date; compare its certainty with the conflicting municipal building profile rather than assuming a plaque automatically settles the question.
Transparency beats a neat timeline: sometimes the best historical answer is 'the sources disagree'.
At Absolonova, Streetours' transparency rule becomes part of the route. Two entries in Brno's own municipal encyclopedia disagree. The cemetery profile says the burial ground was founded here in 1831. The profile for the memorial plaque says the old churchyard cemetery was moved here in 1820, and the plaque itself gives 1820. We do not currently have stronger evidence that resolves the conflict, so the honest answer is: the date is unclear. What happens later is much better documented. Burials stopped in 1973, the cemetery was officially abolished in 1983 and physically turned into a neglected park. Residents organised after 1989, and the cemetery reopened on 1 October 1999.
