The bull has stopped to think

On arrival

Continue south along Rambla de Catalunya and find the bronze seated animal near Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes.

Look closer

Look at the relationship between the animal body and the recognisably human seated pose; the humour lives in the mismatch.

One block of the zoo poses. The next one appears to have opinions.

Walk down Rambla de Catalunya to Granyer's other urban animal. Meditació turns a bull or calf into a seated thinker. It is funny because the body is unmistakably animal while the attitude belongs to a person waiting, judging or solving a problem. The sculpture dates from the same 1972 intervention as Coqueta, and Barcelona's public-art documentation treats the pair as a deliberately unfinished zoo. Do not over-explain the joke. Stand where you can see the animal in profile and let the contradiction do the work: mass, horns and hooves arranged into an almost philosophical posture. The city has given livestock permission to occupy bourgeois promenade furniture.

Accessibility at this stop

Exterior promenade stop. The central Rambla is generally spacious, but exact crossing and surface conditions require human verification.
