The study is smaller than the myth

On arrival

Find the small memorial house in the garden beside the former Organ School on Smetanova Street.

Look closer

Compare the modest domestic scale of the house with the institutional buildings visited earlier; if the memorial is open, the preserved study and piano add context but are not required for the route.

The biggest sound on the walk comes from one of its smallest buildings.

The next stop shrinks the scale dramatically. Janáček moved into this small house in the Organ School garden in 1910 and spent the final eighteen years of his life here. Today the Moravian Museum preserves it as the Leoš Janáček Memorial, including his study and the piano he had received as a wedding present. The official account links this house to an extraordinary run of late works, among them Káťa Kabanová, The Cunning Little Vixen, The Makropulos Affair, Sinfonietta and the Glagolitic Mass. Do not make the room mystical. The point is almost the opposite: a huge artistic reputation can come from a space that remains stubbornly domestic.

Accessibility at this stop

The narrative works from outside, so interior admission is optional. Opening hours, garden access and step-free entry to the memorial itself require current human verification.

These notes describe known conditions at this stop. Urban conditions can change, so assess the situation on site.
