Now Tugendhat stops looking like it landed from space

On arrival

Finish outside the public entrance at Černopolní 45; the route does not require a timed interior ticket.

Look closer

From street level, notice how understated the entrance side is compared with the dramatic garden-facing image usually used to represent the villa.

The celebrity house becomes the final chapter of a neighbourhood story rather than a standalone monument.

End at Villa Tugendhat. Greta and Fritz Tugendhat commissioned Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to design the house on the upper portion of the Löw-Beer estate, and it was built in 1929–1930. Its steel frame, flowing interior and relationship to the slope made it radically different from almost everything you have just seen. But the route changes how that difference reads. Tugendhat did not arrive in an empty field. It entered a villa colony already seventy years old, on land shaped by family wealth, inherited gardens and earlier architectural experiments. The icon becomes more interesting when the neighbourhood is allowed back into the picture.

Accessibility at this stop

Exterior stop works without entry. The city publishes detailed accessibility information for Villa Tugendhat, but interior accessibility and the walking connection should be treated separately and verified before stronger claims.
