A bandstand becomes a public accusation

On arrival

Find the gazebo named Glorieta de la Transsexual Sònia near the Cascada and pause where the memorial text can be read without obstructing the space.

Look closer

Look for the formal name and memorial monolith; compare their explicit civic language with the gazebo's original decorative leisure function.

The route ends when the city changes a place's meaning by naming the person it failed to protect.

Finish at the Glorieta de la Transsexual Sònia because this is where the park stops preserving nineteenth-century ambitions and names a much more recent wound. Sònia Rescalvo Zafra was murdered here by a group of neo-Nazis on 6 October 1991. Barcelona officially gave the gazebo her name on 6 October 2013 and installed a memorial that rejects violence and violations of human rights. Treat the stop with the same restraint as any documented killing: no dramatic embellishment is needed. Read the monolith if it is visible and notice the ordinariness of the park around it. Civic memory can change what a decorative structure is for without changing its basic physical form.
