Brno Built Its Own Profile

On arrival

View this building as an institutional self-portrait, not just an architectural shell.

Look closer

The structural block, staircase enclosure, glazing, and lower-level modifications.

The city showcased itself, archived itself, and now makes music inside.

Designed by Bohuslav Fuchs, this pavilion was created so Brno could present itself to the world. Imagine the challenge: defining a city's identity, giving it physical form, and preventing it from looking like a giant municipal brochure. Architecture became an exercise in civic self-portraiture. Yet the building didn't remain frozen in that single role. Over the decades, it served as a post office, a warehouse, and an archive; today, it hosts rehearsals for the Brno Philharmonic. That chain of transformations is far more fascinating than static preservation. The city put itself on display, packed itself away into storage, and now resonates with music. 🎼 Here lies another definition of the future: not something that stays untouched, but something capable of taking on new jobs without losing its character. Look for traces of its various lives, even if they aren't all immediately visible. The next stop raises the message above the grounds. A tower turned the fair into an iconic skyline feature—an urban notification long before push notifications filled our pockets.
