The restaurant disappeared. The prawn stayed.

On arrival

Find the giant smiling crustacean on Moll de la Fusta near the old waterfront leisure strip.

Look closer

Notice how obviously the object reads as signage even when no restaurant name is needed to explain its presence today.

An advert loses its customer and accidentally graduates into civic memory.

Near the waterfront, Javier Mariscal's smiling crustacean shows how an advertisement can outlive the thing it advertised. La Gamba was created for the Gambrinus restaurant during the redevelopment of Barcelona's waterfront leisure landscape. The restaurant context later vanished, but the giant animal was retained and restored, becoming an object people identify independently of its original commercial job. That survival is the interesting part. Public space often keeps fragments after their first meaning expires. Look at the grin, scale and deliberately cartoon-like body, then imagine the same object functioning as restaurant signage. The city did not erase the joke when the business changed; it inherited it.

Accessibility at this stop

Exterior waterfront stop. The promenade is open public space, but exact pedestrian crossings, gradients and step-free continuity require current human verification.
