Masó harmonises elite modern living with medieval heritage by combining gothic arches with custom Noucentista metalwork.
Peer through the entrance portal at Carrer dels Ciutadans, 8 to examine the courtyard of a fourteenth-century gothic mansion. In 1910, paper industrialist Joan Salieti hired Masó to adapt this historic palau for modern residential living. Rather than sweeping away the medieval structure, Masó used the renovation to demonstrate early Noucentista design principles. Look at the inner courtyard staircase: Masó preserved and repositioned original gothic arches and carved capitals, framing them with custom wrought-iron lanterns and balustrades of his own creation. The result is a seamless dialogue between centuries of civic architecture. It proved that Girona's wealthy industrial patrons could embrace modern living while acting as stewards of the city's built heritage.
Accessibility at this stop
An inner courtyard staircase is highlighted as an architectural feature. The cue specifies viewing from the entrance portal, but step-free access, threshold levels, and courtyard paving require verification.
