HOUSE — use real apartments as a construction experiment

On arrival

Stand on Křídlovická where several of numbers 68–80 can be read as a sequence rather than focusing on a single entrance.

Look closer

Compare repeated structural rhythms and facade systems between the blocks; the route is interested in the series as a test field.

The laboratory has kitchens, bedrooms and people living inside it.

Křídlovická 68–80 is unusually literal evidence of architecture as testing. Brno Architecture Manual dates the experimental houses to 1958–1961 and documents multiple construction experiments, including a block built with cast-in-place concrete. The goal was not only to make housing quickly. Designers and builders were testing structural systems and apartment arrangements against new ideas about how households were expected to live. That turns the residents' everyday building into a full-scale prototype. Look along the repeated blocks and remember that 'experimental' here was not a later critic's label. Experiment was part of the assignment. Domestic normality was produced through construction research at one-to-one scale.

Accessibility at this stop

Residential street stop only; do not enter private buildings. Pavement, crossings and a non-obstructive viewing point require current human verification.
